Mount Horeb Mustard Museum

Did you know that there are 3,500 varieties of mustard? Barry Levenson, founder of the Mount Horeb Mustard Museum, was so fascinated with the spicy condiment that he left a successful career as a lawyer (he was the only lawyer to argue and win a case in the U.S. Supreme Court with a jar of mustard in his pocket) to pursue his hobby full-time.

A visit to this mustard emporium instantly reminds you that there's more to the mustard world than the yellow goop you smear on your hotdog. You can sample and purchase mustards made from fruit and honey, champagne, Guinness, and Jack Daniels, and mustards imported from as far away as Tibet and Turkey.

You can also learn about the origins of mustard, view more than a thousand antique mustard pots, and be entertained in the Mustard Piece Theater. Spend the day at the museum and you, too, may be dousing your ice cream in honey mustard instead of hot fudge (Levenson swears by it!). 00 Main St., Mount Horeb, WI 53572 (U.S. 18 turns into Main St.), tel. 800/438-6878. Free. Seven days a week, 10-5. www.mustardweb.com
