LODGING

APARTMENT AND VILLA RENTALS

If you want a home base that's roomy enough for a family and comes with cooking facilities, consider a furnished rental. It's generally cost-wise, too, although not always---some rentals are luxury properties economical only when your party is large. Home-exchange directories do list rentals---often second homes owned by prospective house swappers---and some services search for a house or apartment for you (even a castle if that's your fancy) and handle the paperwork. Some send an illustrated catalog, and others send photographs of specific properties, sometimes for a charge; up-front registration fees may apply.

HOME EXCHANGE

If you would like to find a house, an apartment, or other vacation property to exchange for your own while on vacation, become a member of a home-exchange organization, which will send you its annual directories listing available exchanges and will include your own listing in at least one of them. Arrangements for the exchange are made by the two parties to it, not by the organization.
